With the novel

The Order, as Snowmoon tells it.

This page is meant to be read with Snowmoon. In that novel, Veridia keeps an institution called the Order. It is built around cryptographic selection, reputation, privacy, and independent evaluation.

The Keepers vote the tax rubrics: the standards that decide what is costly. The Sentinels audit one case and place it on a rubric that already exists. An Acolyte is in training and does that audit too. A prediction score records whether the Acolyte’s judgement matched the Sentinels who later repeat a fraction of the work.

The Order of Steering is that institution, opened here as an interface. The same roles. The same hidden committees. The same score. It is not a new chapter, and it does not continue the plot. The novel stays at the link above.

You begin where the book begins the role: as an Acolyte. The assignment is sealed. The committee is hidden. The score stays unranked until a resample exists. If the record holds, the path can open toward Sentinel, who judges the case, or Keeper, who judges the rubric.

Most of the work stays hidden while someone still holds the role. What follows is the part the book allows a reader to understand.

01 / Acolytes

The role you are given first.

An Acolyte is in training, which does not mean the work is practice. The evaluation is recorded. A fraction of those records will later be repeated by people the Acolyte cannot influence and, by design, cannot find.

You are not asked to be right in public. You are asked to leave a judgement you would still accept when someone else, working from the same case and a different room, does the work again. The others on the case are either hidden or limited to a small group that cannot coordinate with the rest of the panel.

Reputation starts here, and it starts blank. The opening screen says Unranked because nothing has been checked. Arrival does not confer a score.

02 / Sentinels

The check on a single case.

Sentinels are the reference. They take an instance and place it on a standard that already exists. They do not rewrite the standard to fit the instance. That work belongs to Keepers.

In Snowmoon, a Sentinel panel is three groups of three. Each group deliberates apart from the others, then the results meet. One confident voice is not supposed to be able to pull the whole room with it.

A fraction of Sentinel work is also a silent review of Acolytes. The same judgement decides a case and becomes the thing a prediction score is measured against. That is why the role stays small, split, and hard to reach while it is being held.

03 / Keepers

The people who hold the standard.

A verdict expires. A rubric does not. It scores the next case, and the one after that. Keepers argue about the standard itself: what should count, what should be costly, what should be left alone.

The panel is larger for that reason. In Snowmoon, Keepers sit as three groups of seven — still separated, still anonymous while they have the role, but harder for a single temperament to capture. A rule deserves more eyes than a single decision.

They do not need the names of the people a rubric will touch. They need the rubric to survive contact with the resamples. When the role ends, explanation can begin. While it is held, the committee stays hidden.

04 / Prediction score

A record of foresight, not of popularity.

The score measures one thing: how closely an Acolyte’s sealed evaluation agreed with a later Sentinel evaluation of the same case. It does not measure stake, attention, or how many peers approved of the person.

Most evaluations are never scored. In chapter 1, about one in ten is repeated, and the Acolyte does not choose which. A score that stays above ninety can open a path to Sentinel or Keeper. A drop of three points can hold that path for a year. The severity is the point. A reputation you can talk your way back into is not a reputation.

Until a local resample exists, Prediction reads Unranked. A figure marked LOCAL comes only from the engine in this browser, and only from cases that were actually held. The number in the novel belongs to a character. It is not copied onto this page.

05 / How the Order works

From a proof to a record.

The sequence is the institution. Roles are only where a person stands inside it.

Proof, not profile

Eligibility is shown with a proof. The interface can accept the proof without learning a name, a face, or a history it does not need. The opening identity is a mask of that idea. It is not a connected account.

A sealed assignment

A case is bound to the session. Until it is opened, the field stays Sealed. There is no feed of other people’s cases to browse.
03

Sortition

A committee is sampled from the eligible set. The draw is meant to be unpredictable beforehand and checkable afterwards. Being known, liked, or early is not the selection method.

Separation

The committee splits. Sentinel work uses three groups of three. Keeper work uses three groups of seven. Groups commit before they see each other. The member’s view of the rest is Hidden.

One evaluation

Each person submits a single judgement. Sentinels place a case on the current rubric. Keepers propose what the rubric should become. Acolytes do the first kind of work, under training, knowing a resample may follow.

Resample, then score

Some Acolyte evaluations are repeated. The prediction score is the agreement between the two. Nothing else is allowed to write it.

Progress, or wait

A record that holds can open Sentinel work or Keeper work. A record that falls can close that opening for a time. Nobody nominates you in. The committee, until you are inside a real one, stays hidden.

Privacy is not the same thing as an unaccountable system. In Snowmoon, a few members are later drawn out of power and asked to explain the work in public — Heralds, and only after they can no longer be pressured. The roles stay hard to find. The rules are readable. This page is that reading, beside the chapters that tell it.

06 / Other token

A contract with a name, not a person with one.

IMD is another token. The token of this page is The Order. The contract below is Identity.md, a separate network on Ethereum: agents, seats, and a token that pays for work. It is not issued by Snowmoon, it does not appear in the novel, and the novel’s author did not create it.

That address identifies the IMD contract. Twenty bytes, chain id 1. Anyone can call it. Nothing on this page signs, approves, or sends a transaction.

Two trails are public. Identity.md tells its own history as one asset that was Fren Pet, then briefly VIBE, then IMD. Snowmoon names a currency and a country in a novel.
